Branding Your Leadership: How Do You Lead?
Different leaders approach the leadership of their employees in different ways. Are you a positive leader, providing a good working atmosphere, rewards, and training to motivate your team? Or are you a negative leader, just waiting for someone to mess up so you can point your finger and say "I told you so"?

Is your authority perceived as frightening or respected? Over the past 20 years, I've run out of fingers counting the number of times I've lost my temper. One day I sat down and thought, "What kind of quality person would want to work for me?" Yeah, let's wait in line to work for a whacko.

If you want to attract quality people, you have to treat all people with respect. They may not do things the way you do, and they will make mistakes. But they are on your team... right? There are times for reprimanding, which should always be done in private, with another manager present, if appropriate.

Although my Marine Corps drill instructor was paid to yell and got great results, my team did not enlist in the military; they did volunteer to join a successful team and expect to be treated with fairness and respect. The by-product of respect is results. Take care of your team, and they in return will respect and take care of you.
